A Year In Review – Look Back 2018 by Juvien

Hello everyone! What an honour to be posting the first entry of the year!
2018 has been a fun and challenging year for us! Last year, we’ve been busy getting all our marketing materials done, setting up our new website gearing up for 2019. We know we are slightly behind the schedule on this hence we are making this special for all our readers. Instead of our usual single post of favourite moments of the year, we decided to pen down 2 individual post of how 2018 has personally and corporately meant to Laverne and myself. So these are some of the moments which are personally and corporately meaningful to me.

1. The Founding of Eventistry

In 2018, time somehow passed the fastest, perhaps the most growth I experienced in my life. Yet, it was also a different year, in which taking the leap into the world of entrepreneurship when you are still “young and fresh”, which is definitely a challenge for me. I am so grateful to co-found Eventistry with my amazing business-partner-in-crime, Laverne. A business partnership is pretty much like a marriage. You begin with excitement, full of optimism for the possibilities that obstacles in front of you. There are ups and downs. I believe alone we can do so little but together sometimes one plus one equals three!
Looking forward to the next chapter of our journey in Eventistry and we aim to CREATE UNFORGETTABLE CELEBRATIONS to all our clients. Read more about our story in founding Eventistry here and thank you NDrew Photography for taking the photos for us.

2. Celebrating Marilyn + Nick

One of our weddings together and till today, Marilyn & Nick’s wedding still sparks a little excitement in me just looking back at these photos. One of my favourite aspects of their wedding is the casual wedding reception idea of keeping their celebrations relaxed and fun yet elegant and classy.
During our first meeting with Marilyn and Nick, they told us they would like to have casual wedding along the lines of incorporating their love story elements. It was quite challenging as we want the wedding overall feel to be laid-back and effortless, but we also want the big day to be memorable for the couple and their guests. Almost one year of planning, I am glad that this wedding was perfectly the balance between understated elegance and fun.

3. Planned A Surprised Wedding Anniversary Room Decor at St Regis KL

Though it was a simple setup but it was quite a remarkable project for us. We received the husband’s call saying he wanted us to style and makeover the suite he booked for his wedding anniversary. So after the call, we came out with a detailed plan and coordinated with the hotel, florist and decorator on setup arrangement.
We were so glad to plan and design the surprise party, while collaborating with St Regis KL and Event Diaries on decoration setup was so much fun.

4. #TeamEventistry Go South

I am grateful how we braved through the crazy peak wedding period especially when we have back to back events in between this outstation assignment. To be honest it was quite a challenge to plan this wedding as the team is far away from the wedding venue. After months of planning and preparation work, we were so happy that the wedding day went by smoothly. We were also very grateful for our client’s understanding and trust for us to handle the wedding. I also felt that through this challenging period, our team has grown.  Once again thank you Ben and Ellie for having #TeamEventistry to plan your wedding celebration in Amari Hotel JB. Also very thankful for amazing vendors like Manoj Photography and Above production.
We will be sharing more about their wedding story. Stay tuned.

5. Themed Birthday Celebrations

In 2018, we also styled quite a number of themed birthday parties like enchanted baby shark, forest for teen’s birthday, garden themed baby shower, 70th birthday celebration for a mother, paw patrol 5th birthday and colourful dinosaur and balls first birthday.
We will be sharing more about the individual birthday celebrations. Stay tuned.

6. Celebrating Christina + William

Purple is a combination of the calm stability of blue and the fierce energy of red. This wedding truly gives a good example of a touch of purple on your wedding day.
It includes a place where you and your own version of Ryan Gosling can get hitched like in The Notebook.
It is so hard to find one favourite photo because they are all amazing. So I choose this because it’s a dance floor setup instead of a stage backdrop.
We will be sharing more about their wedding story. Stay tuned.

7. Female Entrepreneur Movement FEM Bootcamp

We are so delighted to be part of FEM Bootcamp KL. We provided stage decoration with personalised backdrop and FEM marquee letters, entrance decor and VIP table decor.
What’s so special about this collaboration is that in our giving yet we receive so much. We were invited to attend the workshop and I felt very warmly welcomed throughout the whole workshop. It also gave me a new point of view about marketing and branding. Last but not least,it was lovely to be able to meet up with so many inspirational and powerful female entrepreneurs. I think women are very powerful and I think we are more powerful together than separated. After attending the workshop, I shared with Laverne what I’ve learnt and we are so excited to incorporate some values we captured and learnt into our company culture.
To all daughters, mamas, wives, you all are amazing! We will be sharing more about the Bootcamp in details. Stay tuned.

8. Celebrating Thresa + Chris

We are very thankful that many of our clients have become our friends after their wedding celebration. Thresa and Chris is definitely one of our favourite couple this year! Sharing with you Thresa and Chris’s wedding celebrations with maroon colour theme at the The Saujana hotel & JW Marriot.
We will be sharing more about their wedding story. Stay tuned.

9. Brand Styling for Festive Season

In 2018, we expanded our portfolio by doing corporate brand styling for festive season such as CNY and Hari Raya. It was quite an eye opening experience for our team to be involved in understanding the products our client would like to incorporate in the festive display. So if you are looking for someone to style your launch event, decorate your office lounge or showroom window display, give us a buzz and we’d love to hear from you!

10. Christmas Project #EEMgives

Since it’s the season of giving, we thought it will be good to spread some love to everyone who is part of our lives in 2018.
We were cracking our head thinking of what to give as there are countless things to consider. When we decided to go for cookies, we thought about Bake With Dignity.
Bake With Dignity partners with non governmental organisations and corporations that share the common vision of empowering people with learning disabilities. BWD is more than baking. It is an avenue for people with learning disabilities to have a sense of purpose, to rally for one another and to give each one a sense of belonging. You can read more about BWD here.
And it’s a wrap for 2018 and these are my favourite moments in 2018. What a year it has been and what a year we are looking forward in 2019. Thank you so much to all our families and friends, clients and all our partner/vendor friends! I’ll leave it to Laverne to share about her personal favourite highlights of 2018 in the next post.
Farewell 2018! We are ready for 2019!
