When it comes to weddings, sometimes less is more. This was certainly the case for CK and Zolynn; the couple envisioned a wedding that reveled in simplicity to shine. Instead of going through typical wedding elements such as gate-crashing and wedding games, the couple wanted to keep the wedding day (and the day before) more chill and relaxed, as opposed to hectic and chaotic.

In keeping with this plan to keep things breezy, Zolynn booked a last-minute manicure session the evening before the wedding; all she just had to do was walk across the street to Pavilion. The couple checked into the hotel that night, and the preparation for the wedding (hair and makeup) began on the wedding day after lunch. There were no games or gate-crashing prior to the wedding. It was all smooth sailing!

According to Chinese customs, a wedding signifies the union of two families. Because of this, wedding celebrations are also pretty much a family affair. CK and Zolynn’s wedding embraced the tradition beautifully. The couple started their wedding celebration with a combined tea ceremony session in the hotel function room, an hour before pre-dinner cocktails. Elderly family members who were attending from far away, as well as several other close family members, checked into the hotel by 3 PM and started preparing for the big day.

The tea ceremony was a very heartfelt and intimate gathering. You could feel so much love and support from the family as they shared in CK and Zolynn’s happiness. Their siblings helped in setting up the tea ceremony. Eventistry provided a simple backdrop prop rental for the gathering. When it’s done right, a simple backdrop is perfect for bringing out the oriental theme for tea ceremonies.

Next were the pre-dinner cocktails. It was somewhat of a tradition for CK and Zolynn to take Boomerangs of their drinks when they go out with friends and family. Because of this, we suggested that their table number seating is based on each individual person’s favorite drinks. This suggestion made the wedding reception more personalized! With a total of 180 attendees, the wedding was a cozy and intimate celebration. Because of this, it was easier to design and assign guest table seating arrangements. We designed a table seating chart with the title “Sip and be seated” to be placed near the registration table area.

We tried our best to put thought into the guest experience and ease the workload of the guest registration helper.

  • One of the things we did to contribute to this is proposing to go with paperless registration. Paperless registration allows the arrangements to go green, with less print and less wastage.
  • Another effort from the Eventistry team for this cause was using a laptop to search for guest names, introducing technology into the equation for more convenience and efficiency. We also put forward the idea of using a guest registration app called “The Best Day” for some of the guests! This has been a tried-and-true method of ours, particularly because it supports Chinese characters and allows helpers to assist with guest registrations from their mobile phones.
  • Our next effort links back to our “Sip and be seated” table seating chart. We were able to execute this because the guest list was small and therefore susceptible to fewer changes. It serves as both signage as well as a guest seating chart and also places less of a workload on the guest registration helper.

We are thankful for the trust and freedom that CK and Zolynn gave us when it came to wedding design. This was especially reflected in our Photo Album gallery table. The couple didn’t have much when it came to printed photo albums, except one photo frame tile that was meant to be used as part of their home decor. We didn’t want to simply display a photo gallery on a typical 6 feet banquet or coffee table. In a stroke of inspiration, we combined the Westin’s dessert shelves and their signature “W” coffee table, creating a mix-and-match spread with decorative items to match the overall theme and ballroom decor. As a finishing touch, we laid down some rugs; it all culminated in a very relaxing tranquil atmosphere for guests to lounge in and enjoy the photo gallery. We hope you love and enjoy the final product as much as we do!

The Photo Booth backdrop for the wedding was one of a kind. CK and Zolynn customized the neon signage of their names with the idea of using it as part of their home decor after the wedding! So what we did was to design a custom backdrop with the couple, after which we installed the neon signage on it. After the wedding, CK and Zolynn got to take the neon sign home – talk about sustainable decor!

The program planned for the reception saw a very simple and straight forward approach. However, CK and Zolynn put a lot of thought and consideration in terms of the wedding experience for their guests. Firstly, there’s the Cocktail Bar with the bride and groom’s favorite cocktail; a little personal touch to the wedding celebrations! Secondly, the couple’s name in neon lights cast a heavenly glow over their beautiful photo backdrop. And lastly, the live band serenaded the guests with all of the couple’s favorite songs!

The main highlight for the pre-dinner cocktails was the free flow serving of 200 glasses of the bride and groom’s favorite cocktails: Old Fashion Whiskey by Jameson and Lycheetinis made with Absolut Vodka. The lucrative cocktails were served up by Brotender.

We also specially edited the boomerang videos taken by the couple for everyone to enjoy!

The video is accompanied by the Maroon 5 song “Memories”. “Cause the drinks bring back all the memories of everything we’ve been through,” Adam Levine croons over the melancholic strumming of a guitar, bringing to mind how powerful memories can be in everyone’s life. We are elated that the couple enjoyed the video we put together for them!

CK and Zolynn opted to break social norms by not walking in with a flower bouquet and corsage. Instead, they walked in waving to their guests. How sweet! The couple wanted a cozy setting and there was nothing significant on the program, so instead of engaging professional vendors, they decided to enlist the help Zolynn’s brother, Jin Chong to host what was mainly the yam-seng session on stage and brother of the bride was the emcee. The rest of the night was filled with song performances by The Raw Note.

The dinner started with a pre-wedding video by Istudio, which depicted the couple journeying to various places. We loved how this video turned out and how it added to the genuity of the wedding! We also managed to arrange about 30 minutes for the couple to have a portrait photography session in the ballroom with all the wedding decorations. We loved the outcome of these photos! Oftentimes, couples are either unable to do this or have to go through a chaotic rushed schedule instead of enjoying their big day. This usually happens when couples plan the day with too many things happening back to back. Because of this, our goal is often to discuss your vision and have an open heart to hear suggestions from both sides and plan a wedding where you can really enjoy every moment of your wedding day without having to rush through and stress over every single thing.

During our brainstorming session with CK and Zolynn, they revealed that they wanted something classy for the decorations; something that represents themselves on which they don’t have to spend the entirety of their budget. In addition, they wanted the decorations to have a floral element. It was both challenging and fun to propose creative ideas that fit these requirements; one that is cost feasible, sustainable, and yet delivers the outcome that the couple envisioned. They wanted something very simple and classy for the stage backdrop as well, so we proposed to remove the complimentary fairy lights backdrop provided by the hotel. The backdrop monogram follows the neon signage font and a matte gold finish to suit the couple’s theme. The Westin is popular for their ceiling lighting, so we worked together with the hotel’s technical specialist to direct some of the ceiling lightings on to the backdrop. We loved how this turned out.

Instead of a spotlight following the couple down the aisle, we arranged for the lights to shine down the entire path. The effect was quite lovely! We also decided to choose a white carpet instead of a red one in order to create a clean and classy look. It created quite the spectacular scene when combined with the lighting during CK and Zolynn’s walk-in.

Instead of spending the majority of the budget on both the aisle decoration and the guest table decorations, we managed to utilize the budget in a number of creative efforts:

  • Firstly, we based our idea for the aisle decoration on the layout of 2 long tables along the aisle. We proposed to move the “aisle decoration” up on the 2 long tables to the aisle so that the decoration serves both aisle and table decorations. More specifically, we opted for 4 gold stands with faux floral arrangements so that it was visually appealing and served as 2 types of decorations.
  • We also used gold charger plates on the long table settings in order to bring out the gold elements on the table and prevent the decorations on the table from looking too empty or spaced apart.
  • Finally, we increased the minimal low faux floral arrangement in between the gold stands. The different heights of tapered candle stands made them more visually appealing. What’s more, is that all of the long table decorations are on rentals and can be reused!

The night ended with more fantastic music and dancing! It was evident that everyone at the wedding was having a lovely time.

The march-in video for CK and Zolynn’s wedding was a lovely clip put together to show the couple at their most adventurous and fun-loving. It’s clear to see that they are going to embark on countless special experiences to last forever.

Congratulations CK and Zolynn for starting your blessed lives together as a married couple! We wish you nothing but a lifetime of happy memories.
